Power Plant has been a fixture of the Dutch scene since 1997, and it is not hard to see why. This South African sativa-dominant line grows fast, stretches hard and fills out with long, heavy colas that look almost too big for the plant. Dutch Passion has kept the line pure by backcrossing only, never hybridizing, so what you grow today is the same workhorse that made the strain’s name.
This is the feminized photoperiod version, built for growers who want every seed to count. The spec sheet lists an XXL yield, very high THC and a flowering time of around 8 weeks, with most plants finished in 8-9 weeks after the flip. A few long-flowering phenotypes can run 10-11 weeks, which is still fast for a plant this sativa in character.
Indoors, Dutch Passion gives 500-600 g/m² (1.64-1.97 oz/ft²) as a typical harvest, with skilled growers reaching 600-750 g/m² (1.97-2.46 oz/ft²). Plants usually finish at 75-125 cm (29.5-49.2 in), and individual colas can run 30-50 cm (11.8-19.7 in) long. Outdoors in warm, dry climates she can turn into a true monster.
Power Plant also has silverware to back up the reputation. In 2016 she took 1st Prize Sativa and 3rd Prize Hash at the Lift Expo in Vancouver, plus 2nd Prize Sativa at the Prairie Medicinal Harvest Cup in Canada.
Aroma, Flavor and Effects of Power Plant
Power Plant is not a candy strain, and that is part of her charm. The buds give off a pungent blend of wood, spice, earth and flowers, with softer touches of lily and vanilla once you get past the first wave. The smell is strong in late bloom, so fresh carbon filters are a smart investment before you flip.
On the palate she is woody, spicy and sharp, a flavor profile that brings classic sativa smoke to mind. The smoke itself is famously mild and smooth, which makes long sessions easy.
The effect is quick to land. A bright, euphoric and energizing up-high comes first, ideal for creative work, music or social time with friends. Over the following hours it softens into a more relaxed state where kicking back on the couch feels like the right call. Expect the munchies and a dry mouth, so have drinks and snacks nearby.
Growing Power Plant Feminized Seeds
Power Plant is one of the easiest high-yield strains to run. She tolerates swings in temperature and humidity, feeds without drama and bounces back from training. Bending, crushing and supercropping are all fair game, and she is known as an easy plant to clone if you want to keep a favorite mother going.
Her stretch is the big thing to plan around: 200-300% growth after the flip is normal, lasting about 3-4 weeks. That makes her a natural for SCROG. Dutch Passion advises filling only about half the screen before switching to 12/12, because the stretch will fill the rest. Short-to-medium internodes then stack those long, well-packed colas from top to bottom.
For a fast SOG, she can even go on 12/12 straight from seed and still reach 75-125 cm (29.5-49.2 in). Indoors she is a strong fit for any medium, from soil and coco to hydro. Outdoors, warm and dry regions bring out her full size, while early-finishing phenotypes can also cope with more temperate summers.
