Night Queen has long been one of Dutch Passion’s most resinous indicas, and the photoperiod version took 1st prize at the Champions Cup Malaga in 2015. Night Queen Auto keeps that reputation alive in a faster format. Dutch Passion crossed a hand-picked Night Queen clone with a dark, autoflowering Mazar-i-Sharif hybrid from its gene bank, producing one of the stickiest autoflowers the breeder has ever seen.
The auto version proved its worth quickly, taking 1st prize in the autoflower category at the Highlife Cup 2016. THC averages 15-20%, very close to the photoperiod mother, and the trichome coverage is just as dense.
Plants stay small and bushy, usually 50-70 cm (20-28 in) tall and rarely above 100 cm (39 in). The typical cycle is 10-11 weeks from seed, and some fast phenotypes are ripe in 60-65 days, though Dutch Passion advises giving every plant the full window. Some plants begin showing pistils as early as weeks 3-4.
Despite their modest size, the plants pack weight: around 450-500 g/m² (1.47-1.64 oz/ft²) indoors on average, with up to 600 g/m² (1.97 oz/ft²) possible for skilled growers.
Afghani-Kush Aroma and a Heavy Stone
The nose is classic Afghani-Kush: earthy and hash-heavy, with pine, incense and a hint of fruit. Certain phenotypes lean sweeter and fruitier over that earthy base, yet they lose none of their strength. When burned, the buds release a thick, rich hash smoke typical of strains from the Mazar-i-Sharif region.
Those flowers dry rock-hard, dense enough to bounce if you drop one on the table, and every bract is glazed with resin. Trimming without gloves is a mistake; scissors and fingers get coated fast. The upside is that the sugar trim makes superb material for dry sift, finger hash or other concentrates.
The effect is mainly physical, a deep, long-lasting stone that settles in quickly and invites a slow, quiet evening. There is a mental side too, but the body weight dominates, making this a strain for winding down rather than getting things done.
Late in flowering the large fan leaves often darken and can pick up purple and blue tones, which spread to the buds on some plants. Combined with bright orange pistils and a white trichome layer, the bag appeal is excellent.
Growing Night Queen Auto
Her Afghani heritage makes her tough and easy, a good fit for beginners. Grow her under 20/4 indoors (some growers run 24/0) and skip topping and fimming. Defoliation should be minimal and only after the stretch has stopped, because this fast, compact plant needs its leaves for photosynthesis.
For the biggest plants, germinate straight into a 20-25 L (5.3-6.6 gal) fabric or air-pruning pot. For maximum yield per square meter, many small pots in a SOG setup work very well. Outdoors, choose a full-sun spot and the hottest months; a cycle takes about 10-13 weeks depending on weather, with 100-150 g (3.5-5.3 oz) per plant in good conditions and 35-75 g (1.2-2.6 oz) in cooler climates.
Because the buds are so compact, mold is the main risk. Indoors, keep relative humidity below 50% from the start of flowering and around 35-40% in the final weeks. Outdoors in rainy regions, shelter the plants during wet spells, and always ventilate greenhouses and tunnels.
