Big Yeti by Seedstockers

Big Yeti is a feminized photoperiod strain that Seedstockers developed specifically for outdoor growing in tough climates. It crosses a 1990s Early Durban line with a Sour Diesel selection from upstate New York, creating a sativa-dominant plant that shrugs off rain, wind, cool nights and short summers.

It is not an autoflower: it flowers with the natural shortening of the days. The Dutch breeding team spent four years on the project, selecting the plants that most strongly resisted rain, fungus and pests at a site close to the North Sea coast.

In the vegetative phase, Big Yeti grows from small seedlings into real monsters, reaching up to 5 m (16.4 ft) in very large volumes of garden soil. Flowering is quick for a sativa at about 8 weeks, and the yield is rated massive, with a big harvest arriving in autumn.

The breeder lists a 1st Best Outdoor award at the Highlife Cup for Big Yeti, which matches its whole purpose: thriving outside where other plants struggle.

Lineage: Early Durban x Sour Diesel

The female line is a special Early Durban version from the 1990s that northern Dutch growers have used for generations for outdoor crops. The male is a Sour Diesel selection kept in upstate New York since the early 1990s, in a similar humid climate with wet, short summers.

After a pheno hunt, the top Early Durban female was crossed with the top Sour Diesel male, and the line was then carried through three generations, each grown under the harsh conditions of the northern Dutch coast. The result is a sativa-dominant outdoor variety fully adapted to humidity and fresh sea wind.

Aroma, Flavor and Effect

Big Yeti sits on the sweet-sour side of the spectrum. The buds carry a citrus-led aroma with a tangy, fruity edge from the Sour Diesel father.

The flavor is sweet and sour, reminiscent of tamarind and citrus. It is bright and tangy on the inhale with a sticky, fruity sweetness on the exhale, a refreshing profile for a hardy outdoor strain.

The effect is active and uplifting, as expected from a sativa-dominant cross. With THC in the 14–22% range, it brings a clear, energetic lift that suits daytime activities, garden work and outdoor plans without becoming overwhelming.

Growing Big Yeti Outdoors

Big Yeti is an outdoor strain, at home in large containers or directly in the soil. It suits cooler and wetter climates such as the northern US, and it also handles humid tropical regions and rainy mountain areas with low temperatures. The buds are long and thick yet open enough in structure to help prevent mold.

Start seeds carefully, for example between two damp, unscented cotton pads in a closed container. Move young plants outside only after the last frost, and protect them from snails and caterpillars with a clear cover or cap until they are established. Partly burying the plant in its fabric pot creates a breathable raised bed with fewer transplant shocks.

Water deeply when the soil feels dry a few centimeters (about an inch) down, and give large plants extra water in hot, sunny weather. Indoor growing and greenhouses are not a good match because of the size; in a greenhouse, keep plants small in a relatively modest container with rich potting soil, or the plant may literally reach the roof.
