Big Devil XL Auto is proof that autoflowers do not have to be small. This third-generation hybrid stretches to 110–160 cm (43–63 in), throws out numerous long side branches and loads every one of them with thick, resin-coated buds, all in about 9½ weeks from germination.

Sweet Seeds lists it at 19–20% THC with a Sativa-leaning, stimulating effect and an unusual nose of incense, spice and bright lemon. The breeder’s award list for this strain is long, including first prize as Auto of the Year at the 2014 Soft Secrets High Life Cup.

Lineage: Big Devil #2 Auto Meets an Autoflowering Jack Herer

Big Devil XL Auto (SWS28) grew out of Big Devil #2 Auto (SWS20), crossed with an autoflowering Jack Herer developed in the Sweet Seeds R&D department. The Jack Herer side lifted the height of the earlier version, added more lateral growth and sharpened the citrus edge.

The result is 65% Sativa, 31.9% Indica and 3.1% Ruderalis. Sweet Seeds also lists a 1st prize in the autoflowering category at the III Copa Cannábica Expogrow in Irún (2014) and a 2nd prize at the I Copa Esmeralda in Colombia (2018).

Aroma, Flavor and Effect

This is not a candy strain. The dominant notes are temple incense and warm spice, cut through by a squeeze of fresh lemon and brighter citrus peel. The resin carries the scent heavily, so even light handling of the buds releases it.

On the exhale the spice and incense linger while the lemon keeps things fresh, a bit like walking out of an old cathedral straight into a lemon grove at noon.

Sweet Seeds describes the effect as happy, stimulating, creative and clearly psychoactive. It is a head-first, upbeat high that suits daytime projects, long walks and good conversation more than the couch.

Growing Big Devil XL Auto Indoors and Outdoors

As an autoflower, Big Devil XL Auto ignores day length and needs no 12/12 switch. Run 18/6 or 20/4 from seed to harvest and expect about 9½ weeks in total. Its size calls for a bigger final container than most autos, around 15–25 liters (4–7 gallons), sown directly to avoid transplanting.

Indoors, give it vertical room: at 110–160 cm (43–63 in) it is taller than most autoflowers. LST from the second or third week spreads the long side branches into a flat canopy that can reach 425–650 g/m² (1.39–2.13 oz/ft²) under strong LED lighting.

Outdoors, this is where the XL genetics shine. In full sun with rich soil, plants produce 50–350 g (1.8–12.3 oz) per plant, and the short cycle allows more than one harvest per season in warm regions.
