Passion Fruit is what happens when two of the fruitiest strains in Dutch Passion’s vault meet: Sweet Pink Grapefruit crossed with the original Orange Bud. Opening a jar feels like walking into a candy store, with sweet citrus, sour orange and a grape-like twist that made the Dutch Passion testers think of actual passion fruit.

Orange Bud was selected in the 1980s from outstanding Skunk genetics and is known for dense, crystal-covered buds with orange hairs and a sweet nectarine-orange taste. Sweet Pink Grapefruit, likely of Canadian origin, came to Dutch Passion as a prized clone from a trusted friend in Belgium. Together they produce a stable, vigorous, roughly 50/50 hybrid that leans slightly toward the Sativa side.

The results are big on every front. Passion Fruit earned 1st Prize Outdoor at the Copa del Sol in Peru in 2018, carries an XXL yield rating with 500-600+ g/m² (1.64-1.97 oz/ft²) indoors, and typically tests around 20% THC, with phenotypes near 25% observed.

Flavor, Effects, and Sticky Fruit Overload

Sweet, citrus, sour and orange notes dominate the bouquet, layered over a unique grape flavor that makes Passion Fruit stand out from other fruity strains. The buds are so resinous that brushing past a plant in late bloom leaves the scent on your clothes for hours.

The high is strong and cerebral without turning heavy or edgy. Orange Bud genetics keep it uplifting and social, and the balanced Indica/Sativa mix lets you feel very high while staying functional. A great pick for feel-good afternoons with friends.

Cooler nights can paint the buds and leaves with blue and purple autumn tones and even boost resin, making her as photogenic as she is tasty.

Growing Passion Fruit Feminized Seeds

Hybrid vigor makes Passion Fruit fast and explosive in bloom. She is resilient and forgiving enough for beginners, yet rewards experienced growers chasing top potency. Give her about 4 weeks of veg in most setups, or around 6 weeks when growing only a few plants per square meter. In a SOG she can even go straight to 12/12 after germination. Flowering takes about 8-9 weeks, so the total cycle is roughly 12-15 weeks from seed.

She takes well to LST, HST, bending and supercropping. Topping or FIM creates a bushier plant, but skip it on Indica-leaning phenotypes so you keep the massive main cola. Expect some stretch in flower, though less than a pure Sativa. SCROG with just one or a few plants per square meter also works very well.

Outdoors she handles cold nights and even mountain conditions, growing into 250-350 cm (98-138 in) giants that can be just as wide. Harvest falls in mid to late fall. A greenhouse helps her reach full potential, as long as fresh air keeps moving. Watch humidity during flowering, since dense flowers can be sensitive to mold. Strong, THC-rich plants also make excellent mothers.
